Gregory Verspecht

Digital OT Specialist

Gregory is a great example of a hybrid engineer: someone with hands-on experience in both industrial automation and IT infrastructure. This makes him the perfect bridge between the shop floor and the IT department, especially when it comes to translating machine data into modern connectivity solutions.

Gregory’s passion for automation is pretty much part of his DNA. His father built control panels, and Gregory spent his weekends and holidays helping out at work. This hands-on experience also gave him an early introduction to PLC programming. That’s why, after finishing his studies in Electrical Installation Techniques, Gregory decided to get a degree in Electromechanical Engineering with a specialization in Automation.

He spent his first five and a half years as a consultant, working on diverse industrial projects across water treatment, railway infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and the food and beverage industry. During this period, he built a strong technical foundation: besides Siemens-based PLC programming and WinCC for SCADA, he also gained hands-on experience with Phoenix Contact systems like PLCNext and Atvise.

After two years, he also took over the IT department and became responsible for the internal infrastructure and managed OT networks for external clients. Seeing both sides opened his eyes to a common industry bottleneck: IT teams rarely understand the OT side, and vice versa.

When he briefly transitioned into a pure IT and networking role to learn more about networking, he quickly realized he missed the industrial environment. He started looking for a way to reconnect, at which point Jurgen reached out to him.

Gregory already followed Coretecs on LinkedIn because of our UNS-related content, so the timing couldn’t have been better. They quickly connected over their shared vision for the industry, and the rest, as they say, is history. Gregory is currently using his PLC and automation expertise by helping us build IT/OT connectivity layers with tools like Ignition, MQTT, and Docker.

Outside of work, Gregory likes to keep busy with technology and experiment with Docker and home servers. He’s even building a physical multiplayer reaction game, something we’re quite curious about! Besides coming up with games, Gregory also likes to push his physical limits by training for a triathlon.

Real connectivity only happens when the shop floor and the server room finally understand each other.
