Matthias is our versatile bridge builder. With a background as an automation engineer and a passion for finding out how things truly work, he's great at translating complex client needs into elegant solutions. He’s the "polyglot" of the team, just as comfortable speaking the language of PLC logic as he is coordinating a large-scale project.

As a child, Matthias didn’t say he wanted to be an engineer. He wanted to be an inventor. That creative spark led him to study electromechanical engineering at KU Leuven. He quickly realized that automation was the closest thing to “inventing” in the modern world: writing code that makes massive physical machines move in reality.
Matthias started his career as a consultant, eager to see as many industries as possible. From programming high-security access systems for prisons to acting as the link between production and developers at a pharmaceutical company, he learned a vital lesson early on: technology only works if the people using it are heard. He loved the human interaction and training aspects, but the mountain of documentation made him miss the hands-on technical execution.
To sharpen his skills, Matthias spent a few years diving deep into R&D and prototype development. He didn't just stick to PLCs, though! He taught himself Python and C++ to build modern, powerful edge applications. This jack-of-all-trades approach lets him understand the entire stack, from the smallest sensor to the backend cloud platform.
As he grew, Matthias found himself naturally leaning towards project management. He realized his real superpower was sitting down with a client, peeling back the layers of a problem, and figuring out the path forward. He chose Coretecs because it offered the perfect blend: the scale-up vibe, the high-level Unified Namespace (UNS) concept, and the freedom to manage projects without losing his technical edge.
Today, Matthias is putting that expertise to work at imec, where he coordinates complex automation projects that help keep their world-class facilities running smoothly.
Outside of work, Matthias is still an inventor at heart. He is currently renovating his house, and in true engineer fashion, he’s turning it into a fully automated smart home. When he’s not tinkering with home automation or perfecting his backhand on the tennis court, you’ll likely find him on the water windsurfing. He's always looking for the next breeze and the next challenge!
